Learning Survival Skills With Friends

A post shared by FMA Mandirigma ???? (@filipinopersonaldefensesystems) on Oct 16, 2017 at 12:40pm PDT

Camping, Primitive Skills, and Survival Skills

This past weekend I had a the privilege of going camping with a great bunch of guys. We learned a variety of primitive and survival skills, from creating fire using bow drill and flint and steel to sharpening tomahawks with a rat tail file.

By profession, you have a fitness coach/FMA instructor @filipinopersonaldefensesystems , an engineer, a primitive skills/survival instructor @urbankidadventurers , and a photographer @mathew_zucker.

Our common bond is a love of martial arts/fighting arts whether it’s FMA, BJJ, Aikido, Wrestling, Bagua, Jujutsu, Karate, or Tae Kwon Do.

I’m fortunate to be surrounded by humble, generous, knowledgeable, and stand up individuals. These guys are definitely some of them and I am also proud to call them friends.

Looking forward to more trips with these dudes and of course more training as well.

Survival Skills – Tomahawk Sharpening

A post shared by FMA Mandirigma ???? (@filipinopersonaldefensesystems) on Oct 16, 2017 at 7:28am PDT

Survival Skills Lesson

⛏ Learned to sharpen a tomahawk this past weekend ⛏

No matter what you do in life you always have to be prepared. This means keeping your tools sharp be it physical, mental, or spiritual.

Physically, I stay active whether it’s working out, Filipino martial arts, or moving around

Mentally, I’m always learning as much as I can whether it’s through reading, watching videos, finding mentors/teachers, participating in different types of programs, or even through teaching my students or training clients

Spiritually, I journal, stay mindful, reflect, study, and self-examine

We all have our own ways and you don’t have to do it all at once. Just do something, anything. Just strive to be a little bit better than before, that’s all.

A shout out to @kuntawkalikruzada @urbankidadventurers and @strenuous.life for being a part of that process for me

Primitive Skills Lesson

Creating Cordage Using A Dogbane Plant

The rope made is very durable and has quite a variety of uses outdoors

Thanks again Thom @urbankidadventurers for another educational day

Aside from covering the usual types of plant and animal life, I got my first intro into tracking both humans and animals as well
